Title: At Peace (The Burg Series
Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that’s when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan.
She wants to deny it, but Violet can’t beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi’s hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.
Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she’s sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she’s ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn’t know the dark secrets in Joe’s past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they’ve drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe’s determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet’s heart.
Crushed by Joe’s betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet’s husband’s murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can’t fight Violet’s pull, she’s under his skin and filled him full to bursting.
Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?
I have just finished this book. I can’t even think where to begin with my review. This book has shuffled its way to one of my TOP READS of all time. Everything about this book, is just perfect.
This book is about so much more than just being with the one you love. This book is about family, the foundation of family and the importance of it. No matter what was happening it came back to family. Having the support of your family for you is all you need. The emotions I felt while reading this book, I felt them all. I was sad, I cried. I was Happy and would smile and laugh. I was on the edge of my seat for what would happen next. Just everything. Smiled. laughed. cried. sighed. grunt in frustration. And all over again all the way to the end. The emotions captured in this book was brilliant. The writing style is superb, and couldn’t have had wished anything better.
Joe, *sigh* Joe. The way he was towards Violet is priceless, that is what I want to read about, dream about, and hear about. He is the epitome of the perfect man. His emotions were so raw. What he went through, and he was still there for Violet. The way he treated Violets girls, as if they were his own. He always looked out for them and had their best interests in mind.
I did both audible and reading variations on this book. I just couldn’t stop. When I was in line at the store for 5 min, I was reading. When I was driving rather it be 5 minutes or 1 hour, I was listening. Even at work myself and co-worker listens to audible books, and we were in the middle of one and I had to put that on hold, to put headphones in and listen to THIS. Well with work and all, I wouldn’t call all parts of this good listening material at work, so in came the headphones. I seriously could not stop. Even now that it is over, I don’t want it to be over. Although it was the perfect ending, I don’t know how there could be more, but I want more!!!
This is what we look for in romance novels. This is what I look for when I’m looking for my escape from reality. And escape I did. I was so enthralled everything got put on the back burner. THIS is what we MUST read. This is what makes romance novels, romance novels. This is how they should be written. YES, I 1,000% say READ THIS BOOK. Read, listen, whatever, just do.
And NO listening to audible version won’t sway you away from the characters. I have listened to books in past that made me cringe or dislike the character and had to read instead of listen. but here no. The voices went with the characters and I could perfectly picture everything in my mind.
Audible – 1,000 percent enjoyed
